Nyambaga Bindarray Public Art Trail & V-Wall Painted Rocks
Nyambagga Walking Trail is a short cultural foreshore walk in Nambucca Heads on the NSW Mid North Coast, on Gumbaynggirr Country. It connects the famous V-Wall painted rocks at the Nambucca River breakwall with the Captain Cook Lookout headland carpark above Shelly Beach, via a mix of paved boardwalk and short headland stairs.
The walk is suitable for a relaxed outing with your dog. Bilingual interpretive panels and public sculptures share the stories of the Baga-Baga Clan (Ocean People) of the Southern Gumbaynggirr Nation, with sweeping Pacific and river views along the way. It is one of the most accessible dog-friendly cultural walks between Coffs Harbour and South West Rocks.
You do not need to walk the whole route. Because the V-Wall and Foreshore boardwalk are flat and separately accessible, dog owners can easily do a short 15–20 minute paved section and combine it with a stop at the nearby river foreshore parks or the Captain Cook Lookout whale-watching spot.

Things to Know Before You Go
- The headland stairs section may not suit seniors or mobility-limited dogs, so stick to the paved V-Wall and Foreshore Walk boardwalk instead.
- The V-Wall asphalt gets very hot between 10am and 3pm in summer, so visit early or late afternoon and bring extra water for sensitive paws.
- Marine stinger season typically runs November to May along the adjacent coast, so supervise closely if your dog paddles in the nearby off-leash river sections.
- Use the signed Swimming Creek Beach north end or Stuarts Island north for off-leash runs; never unclip on the V-Wall, Nyambagga Trail or prohibited beaches.
