Sydney Park
Multi-award-winning 44-hectare regional park on Sydney Park Road Alexandria – one of the city’s largest and most-loved off-leash recreation spaces, famous for rolling grassy hills, heritage-listed brick kiln chimneys (reminders of its former brickworks and landfill history), and extensive ponds and wetlands that now filter stormwater and attract waterbirds, frogs and turtles.
Dogs are welcome off-leash at all times across most of the park, with a dedicated shallow dog paddling pool near the main hills for summer cool-downs. Excluded areas where dogs must NOT enter at any time: the Wetlands and waterbird habitat zones, Alan Davidson Oval (AFL and cricket ground), Sydney Park Cycling Centre and the children's learn-to-ride bike track, the main enclosed playground, and all public barbecue picnic zones.
Facilities dotted throughout the park include 26 electric barbecues, shaded picnic tables and shelters, public toilets and water stations. The award-winning Sydney Park Skate Park features the largest public flow bowl in Sydney (3m deep), an expansive plaza with rails and banks, a beginner bowl, and night lighting until 9pm for evening sessions. The shaded children's bike track next to the Cycling Centre hosts regular learn-to-ride clinics for kids. For families there is a large partially enclosed adventure playground with water play for all ages and abilities, plus Sydney City Farm community garden and urban agriculture project at the St Peters end.
