Kutti Beach – Dog Access Guide for Vaucluse

Secluded harbour beach — always check current local signage

Kutti Beach is a small, sheltered harbour beach tucked away in Vaucluse, between houses and accessed via a narrow staircase at the end of Wharf Road.

Recent guidance indicates dog access may now be prohibited by Woollahra Council, so it should not be treated as a confirmed dog-friendly outing without checking on-site signage first.

Tips
The November 2025 Woollahra Council rule change is permanent and strictly enforced – do NOT unclip the leash at any point on Kutti Beach, the access stairs or the surrounding rock platforms, because Woollahra rangers patrol this specific beach regularly now and have been issuing $330+ on-the-spot fines to even first-time offenders who mistake the old occasional tolerance for a current rule. The 128-step wooden staircase is steep and slippery when wet after rain, so carry smaller dogs if needed, take it slowly going down, and wear footwear with grip even on dry days because the steps get covered in fine sand that makes them surprisingly slippy. Kutti Beach has literally zero facilities whatsoever, so bring your own drinking water, poop bags, a picnic blanket and any food you want for the visit, because the closest public toilets, tap water and cafes are a 15 minute walk away at the Nielsen Park kiosk. Bluebottle jellyfish can drift into the bay on northeasterly winds during summer months, so do a quick visual scan of the water and tide line before letting dogs go in even on-leash for a paddle. If you are looking for an off-leash Eastern Suburbs harbour beach instead of Kutti, the nearby Rose Bay Dog Friendly Beach (Zone 1 and 2) is only a six minute drive further back towards the city and has properly signed 24-7 off-leash areas.
