Moreton Bay Cycleway (Wynnum to Manly) – Dog-Friendly Bayside Walk in Brisbane

Flat paved shared path · Wynnum Esplanade to Manly Harbour Village · 7.4 km one-way (14.8 km return)

The Wynnum to Manly section of the Moreton Bay Cycleway is a flat, fully paved foreshore shared path along Brisbane’s southern Moreton Bay waterfront on Quandamooka Country. It runs approximately 7.4 kilometres one way between Wynnum Whale Park at the western end and Manly Harbour Village at the eastern end, with multiple entry and exit points along the esplanade.

The route is suitable for dog owners wanting a relaxed, level outing on a smooth surface: it works well for seniors, senior dogs, puppies on lead, prams, wheelchairs and family bikes. Shade is limited on the path itself, so it is most comfortable outside the warmest part of the day.

You do not need to walk the full return distance. Because there are carparks, parks and cafes at both ends and at several points in between, dog owners can pick a shorter section and combine it with the Wynnum Wading Pool, foreshore parks or Manly Harbour Village for a varied outing.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • Some sections have limited shade, so early morning or late afternoon is more comfortable during hot weather. Booties or paw-protection for sensitive paws.
  • The route is shared with cyclists, so keep your dog close and stay aware of approaching bikes on narrow path.
  • Parking and foreshore carparks fill quickly on summer weekends and market Sundays; arrive early or catch the Cleveland line train.
  • Use the designated off-leash areas rather than unclipping on the shared path.
Tips
The entire Moreton Bay Cycleway Wynnum to Manly path is ON-LEASH only for dogs — never remove the leash along the paved esplanade, shared path or wooden boardwalk sections. The only nearby off-leash dog exercise areas are Elanora Park (Wynnum end, signed off-leash enclosures next to the esplanade) and the signed cove at the end of Davenport Drive, Manly, between the two rock walls — dogs are prohibited on the main Manly Beach sand and on Pandanus Beach sand. Council can issue fines up to ~$863 for dogs not under effective control or in prohibited areas. The paved path is fully exposed and very hot for paw pads in summer — walk before 9am or after 4pm on warm days, bring extra water bowls, booties or cooling mats for senior dogs and puppies, and watch for signs of heatstroke. Always carry poop bags and use the bins provided; do NOT let dogs harass or chase migratory shorebirds, seabirds or crabs on the tidal flats in the Wynnum Wading Pool or around Manly Harbour. The heritage Wynnum Wading Pool is for people paddling only — do NOT let dogs swim or wade in the heritage tidal pool or the nearby Wynnum Whale Park water play area. Use a pram, wheelchair or bike for very young kids or older adults as the 7.4 km one-way walk is long in exposed heat; combine it with a return trip on the Queensland Rail Cleveland line train between Wynnum and Manly stations (about 4 minutes, dogs on-leash allowed outside peak). Street parking fills quickly on summer weekends, on market days and on public holidays — arrive before 8am or use the Cleveland train line from the city.
