A spacious south-facing Illawarra surf beach stretching 2 kilometres between the breakwall of Port Kembla Harbour in the north and the rocky headland of Hill 60 and the Port Kembla Stack lookout to the south. Popular with local families, surfers and dog owners, Port Kembla Beach offers golden sand, consistent beach breaks, and wide grassy dune reserves with picnic shelters, public toilets, shower blocks and a kiosk near the Surf Life Saving Club at the northern end.

Dog access is split across three clearly signed zones along the beach. At the northern end closest to the SLSC building and the red-yellow patrolled swimming flags, dogs are prohibited at all times for public safety. The long middle section of the beach allows dogs on-leash only before 7am and after 6pm from the start of October to the end of March (summer daylight saving), and before 9am and after 4pm from April to September (winter). The southern end of Port Kembla Beach, running from the middle carpark access ramp southwards past the dunes towards Hill 60, is the dedicated off-leash dog exercise area and is open 24 hours a day all year round, making it one of the most popular year-round off-leash beaches in the Illawarra. Always obey on-site signage and check for temporary shorebird exclusion zones between May and November in the dune areas at the southern end.
