A long, scenic south-facing surf beach on the Lake Macquarie coast between Newcastle and Caves Beach, with an officially designated and fenced dog off-leash exercise area separated from the main public patrolled swimming and surfing sections. Redhead Beach features golden sand, rolling surf breaks, and a dune-backed shoreline popular with local families, surfers and dog owners.

Dog access at Redhead Beach is split into clearly signed zones (see photo 6 in this gallery for the official Lake Macquarie City Council maps showing exact boundaries): the northern patrolled area between the flags and main Surf Club is closed to dogs at all times; the middle section of the beach allows dogs on-leash only before 9am and after 5pm from October to April (before 9am and after 4pm May to September); the large southern stretch – the Redhead Beach Dog Off-leash Area – is zoned for off-leash exercise 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, all year round, and is where most local dog owners head for beach runs and swims with their pets. Always check on-site signage as zone boundaries can change with beach erosion works or breeding seasons for shorebirds on the dunes.
